Le Commandant Charcot Successfully Reaches the North Pole for the Fourth Time

In summer 2024, Ponant's polar icebreaker Le Commandant Charcot successfully completed its fourth North Pole voyage. Its hybrid LNG-battery propulsion allows lower-emission polar voyages.

Ponant's luxury polar ship Le Commandant Charcot successfully completed two further North Pole voyages in July and August 2024. The world's only luxury icebreaker cruise ship has now reached the geographic North Pole four times (since entering service in 2021).

What makes the Charcot special

Ice class PC2, hybrid propulsion with LNG plus an electric battery. In the polar region she can switch to battery power and navigate emission-free. The Nuna restaurant is curated by Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse.

Voyages 2025

Three North Pole voyages are planned for July–August 2025, departing from Spitsbergen. Plus Antarctic routes from Ushuaia between November 2024 and March 2025.
