Viking Ocean Cruises
About Viking Ocean Cruises
Viking Ocean Cruises is the ocean-going subsidiary of the Viking holding company (river cruise operator Viking River Cruises) and set sail for the first time in 2015 with the Viking Star. The company is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. With the ocean cruise business, Viking founder Torstein Hagen sought to transfer the successful formula of river cruising to the open sea: adult-focused (ages 18 and up), Scandinavian design, and a culturally immersive travel concept featuring lectures and museums on board.
The fleet consists of identical sister ships of the Viking Star class (Viking Star 2015, Viking Sea 2016, Viking Sky 2017, Viking Sun 2017, Viking Orion 2018, Viking Jupiter 2019, Viking Venus 2021, Viking Mars 2022, Viking Neptune 2022, Viking Saturn 2023, Viking Vela 2024) — each measuring 47,800 GRT with 930 guests accommodated in 465 veranda suites. All cabins feature a veranda. The on-board concept includes: one complimentary shore excursion per port, Wi-Fi, and non-alcoholic beverages. The on-board language is English and the on-board currency is the US dollar.
Routes are offered worldwide, often as 8- to 21-day voyages with a cultural focus. Highlights include a Swedish sauna area with a snow room, a living room library, and the Star Theatre. Target audience: 55+, educated, well-traveled, with no children's entertainment program.
