About Princess Cruises
Princess Cruises was founded in 1965 in Los Angeles and is part of the Carnival Corporation. The brand became known worldwide through the TV series The Love Boat (1977–1986) — which was filmed aboard the Pacific Princess, a predecessor of today's fleet. Princess positions itself as a premium brand with the slogan Come Back New: slightly more service, larger cabins, and a more relaxed onboard experience than its mainstream sister brand Carnival.
The fleet comprises 16 ships. The newest and largest member is the Sun Princess (2024) — Princess's first LNG ship, with 175,500 GRT and capacity for 4,300 guests. The Royal class (Royal, Regal, Sky, Enchanted, Discovery Princess) forms the modern mid-range segment at approximately 145,000 GRT. The Grand class (Crown, Diamond Princess) represents the older premium generation. A standout onboard feature is OceanMedallion technology — a small NFC coin that opens doors, locates your cabin, orders drinks, and manages show reservations.
The onboard language is English and the onboard currency is the US dollar. Key itinerary focuses include Alaska (where Princess is the market leader), the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and world voyages. The brand is well known for Movies Under the Stars (an open-air cinema by the pool) and the beloved Italian premium restaurant Sabatini's.
