About Mitsui O.S.K. Passenger Line
Mitsui O.S.K. Passenger Line (MOPAS) is the cruise subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Japan's second-largest shipping conglomerate. The company is headquartered in Tokyo. The cruise line operates a single vessel, the Nippon Maru, and positions itself clearly in the premium segment with a classic Japanese identity.
The Nippon Maru (1990, refitted multiple times, most recently in 2010 and 2020) is a boutique ship of 22,472 GRT accommodating 408 guests, offering a high level of service. The onboard concept includes classic Japanese restaurants (sushi, tempura, kaiseki), a Western main dining venue, a Japanese wedding chapel, an onsen spa area, and traditional tea ceremonies. A replacement vessel (Mitsui Ocean Fuji) is currently under construction.
The onboard language is Japanese and the onboard currency is the Japanese yen. The primary itineraries focus on island-hopping around Japan (Hokkaido, Okinawa), occasional Asian routes, and regular world cruises departing from Yokohama. The target audience is loyal Japanese guests with premium expectations — the onboard etiquette is reminiscent of the NYK tradition.
