A ship in the middle of the Atlantic or the Pacific is invisible to them and only reappears as it approaches the next coast. Then there are yard periods when the transmitter is switched off. Neither is a cause for concern.

From AIS, the Automatic Identification System. Ships of this size must carry it. It transmits position, course, speed and destination by radio; receiving stations ashore pass the reports on. We match them to MS Fram via its MMSI and IMO numbers and record the positions, which is also where the sailed route comes from. MMSI: 258932000. IMO: 9370018.
