About Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises was founded in 1988 by the Greek Chandris Group and has been part of the Royal Caribbean Group since 1997. Its headquarters are in Miami. Unlike its sister brand Royal Caribbean, Celebrity clearly positions itself as a premium and modern luxury brand: fewer ships, smaller passenger numbers, higher service standards, and a distinctly quieter style. The brand's core identity is Modern Luxury — contemporary art on board (over 4,000 original works per ship in the Edge class), celebrity chefs, and a consistently adult-oriented approach.

The flagship Edge-class ships (Edge, Apex, Beyond, Ascent, and the upcoming Xcel) introduced a revolutionary design from 2018 onwards: the Magic Carpet — a 27-metre-wide platform that can travel up and down the side of the ship — serving alternatively as an additional restaurant, bar, or tender platform. The older Solstice class (Equinox, Solstice, Eclipse, Reflection, Silhouette) offers a similar premium experience on somewhat more classic ships of approximately 122,000 GRT.

The onboard language is English, and the onboard currency is the US dollar. Key itinerary destinations include the Caribbean, the Galápagos Islands (with dedicated expedition yachts), the Mediterranean, Asia, and Alaska. Celebrity is the only mainstream cruise line with its own Michelin-starred restaurant programme — top chefs such as Daniel Boulud curate the premium menus.
